This course is prepared to introduce students to the use of geospatial technologies and decision making on thorough data Collection and analysis. The module gives primary emphasis to the use of geographic information systems (GIS) for data creation, mapping, and analysis and its applications in the current scenarios such as Urban Planning & Urban Design, Smart Cities, Climate Change, Designing & Planning for Resilience using tools like QGIS & Mapunity Resilience platform. It will also cover the use of applications for field data collection and mapping using online tools such as Mapunity Groups; and cartography for quality visualization and Representation of conditions, issues, and analysis results.

Course Objective
The main objective of the training module on GIS is to get learners to
Understand the basics of GIS concepts such as mapping, analytics and its main applications.
Use the various mapping and analytical tools to understand Urban Scapes, predict patterns in geological phenomenon etc.
Gain cartographical skills with the help of spatial analytical tools.
Evaluatetheappropriatenessoftheexistingdatasourcesforuseinagivenapplication.
Training Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be very proficient in the use of geospatial technologies for mapping and analysis and have a practical understanding of GIS concepts, techniques and real-world applications. Specifically, students will be able to:
Identify, locate, and acquire spatial data pertinent to projects in their field of interest, as well as pinpoint significant gaps in or problems with existing information.
Understand the data creation process and create simple data sets and/or add to existing data.
Perform spatial analyses (attribute and spatial queries, buffering, overlays) as well as linking these methods together in a more complex analytical model.
Create high-quality maps and associated graphics and text that clearly communicate spatial information and the results of analysis
Use technologies and tools for field data collection and mapping
Understand alternate career options in the change making space.
